David Gregory

David Gregory was born in Aberdeen in 1659. He entered Marischal College, Aberdeen, in 1671. In 1679 he matriculated as a medical student at Leiden University and then travelled throughout Europe. He was granted an MA from the University of Edinburgh in 1683 and shortly after took up the position of professor of mathematics there. Gregory was elected professor of astronomy at Oxford in 1691 and was awarded the degrees of MA and MD at Oxford the following year. He was made a fellow of the Royal Society in 1692. Gregory died in London in 1708.
