David Clerk

David Clerk was the son of Dr John Clerk, former President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and cousin of the first Baronet Clerk of Penicuik. Born in Edinburgh, he studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, writing his thesis 'On Rheumatism' in 1746. He worked as a physician at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh until his death in 1768. His son, James Clerk-Rattray, was a lawyer and later Baron of the Exchequer.
