Claude Buchanan Ker was born in Cheltenham in 1867, the son of Dr Claudius Buchanan Ker. He was educated in Cheltenham before undertaking medical training at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1890. In 1891 he was appointed Superintendent of Edinburgh City Hospital and also held posts at the Royal Maternity Hospital and the Edinburgh Fever Hospital. He obtained the Certificate of the Medico-Psychological Association of Great Britain in 1891 and graduated MD in 1896. He published extensively on fevers and infectious diseases, including 'Manual of Fevers' (1901) and 'Infectious Disease: A Practical Textbook' (1920). During the First World War he offered his services to the Scottish Medical Service Emergency Committee. Claude Buchanan Ker died in Edinburgh in 1925.
