Chung Yik Wang

Chung-yik Wang was born in 1888. He entered the Hong Kong College of Medicine in 1903, qualifying LMSH in 1908, and proceeded to the University of Edinburgh, where he graduated MB ChB in 1910. He obtained the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in 1911, the Diploma in Public Health from the University of Manchester in 1912, and the MD in 1915 for research on tuberculosis. From 1913 to 1919 he served as Research Fellow and Acting Superintendent of the Laboratory of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, publishing extensively on bacteriology and tuberculosis in the Journal of Pathology and Bacteriology and The Lancet. In 1920 he was appointed the first Professor of Pathology at the University of Hong Kong and authored 'Handbook of Pathology' (1925). Wang died of tuberculosis in 1930 and was buried at Pok Fu Lam Road Cemetery, Hong Kong.
