Charles Spencer Waller Cobbold

Charles Spencer Waller Cobbold, the son of the parasitologist Dr Thomas Spencer Cobbold, studied at Wurzburg, earning his MD in 1874, and trained at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. A member of the Neurological Society and the Medico-Psychological Association, his career was largely based in asylums in the south of England. His posts included Senior Assistant Medical Officer at Middlesex County Asylum and Medical Superintendent at the Asylum for Idiots, Earlswood. He published several works, including 'Design for a Public Asylum' and 'The Alleged Increase in Insanity'. He retired in 1913 and died in 1931.
