Charles Oliphant

Date of Fellowship admission: 9 November 1693
Charles Oliphant was one of the first candidates to be examined for admission as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. Having satisfied the examiners, he was licensed to practise on 9 November 1693 and, by another vote in respect of his qualifications, was admitted as a Member of the College that same day. Within six months of his admission, the College had developed the practice of granting a licence and advancing to fellowship in one sitting. During his career, Oliphant served as Treasurer of the College. In December 1699 he was suspended from his position for failing to produce his accounts. The suspension was lifted on 31 January 1700, when Oliphant vacated his position as Treasurer.
