Charles Henry Fox was born in Brislington, Bristol, in 1837, the son of Dr Francis Ker Fox of Brislington Asylum. He was educated at Shrewsbury and Highgate College and studied medicine in Edinburgh before graduating MD from the University of St Andrews in 1860. He returned to Bristol to work at Brislington Asylum, becoming a partner in 1873. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1900 and was also a Fellow of the Botanical Society and the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. He died in Brislington in 1916.
