Charles George Lambie

Charles George Lambie was born on 24 July 1891 in Port of Spain, Trinidad. He was educated at Ayr Academy and Stanley House, Stirlingshire, and graduated MB from the University of Edinburgh in 1914. After serving as Resident Physician at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, he enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1915 and served in Mesopotamia, Poona, and France, receiving the Military Cross in 1918. After the war he was involved in early insulin trials for diabetes. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1924. In 1931 he was appointed Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney, becoming the first full-time academically trained Professor of Medicine in Australia. He died on 28 August 1961 at the Royal North Shore Hospital.
