Charles Field Goldsbro was born in Montgomery, Powys, Wales, in 1828. After working as House Surgeon at Charing Cross Hospital and as a medical officer at HM General Post Office, he earned his MB from the University of Edinburgh in 1860. He emigrated to New Zealand the same year and became the first recipient of an MD from the University of Sydney in 1868. Based in Auckland, he served as Coroner for the district's gaols and hospitals and as Medical Referee for the Royal and Australian Insurance Company. He was also a Justice of the Peace and president of the Auckland Medical Society, and died in 1883.
