Maharaja Sir Bhagvatsingh was born Kumar Sri Bhagvatsinghji Sangramsinhji Sahib in Gondal, India in 1865. In 1869, at the age of four, Bhagvatsingh succeeded his father as Maharaja of Gondal. In 1892 Bhagvatsingh travelled to Britain to begin his medical education at the University of Edinburgh. Bhagvatsingh graduated from the University with a medical degree in 1895 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in the same year. Bhagvatsingh returned to India where he remained involved in the medical field. He held the position of Vice-President of the Indian Medical Association. Bhagvatsingh died in Gondal, India in 1944.
