Augustus Alexander Matheson was born in Inverness-shire, the son of Farquhar Matheson, a revenue agent. He earned his MB CM from the University of Edinburgh in 1883 and his MD in 1886. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1889 and died in December 1941.
