Arthur Gamgee

Arthur Gamgee was born in Florence in 1841. He studied physics at the University of Edinburgh before graduating MD there in 1862. He subsequently became House Physician at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Between 1863 and 1869 he acted as assistant to the Professor of Medical Jurisprudence at Edinburgh, while also lecturing at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and serving as Physician to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children. In 1873 he was appointed Professor of Physiology at Manchester. He resigned this position in 1885 and in 1887 became Assistant Physician at St George's Hospital, London. He died in Paris in 1909.
