Archibald William Pulteney Pinkerton

Archibald William Pulteney-Pinkerton was born in Dollar in 1829 and educated at Dollar Academy. Nephew of William Pulteney-Allison, he graduated from the University of Edinburgh on 1 August 1850 with a dissertation titled 'Observations on carcinomatous diseases of the stomach'. He served as physician to the New Town Dispensary, Edinburgh, and as resident physician at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He was President of the Royal Medical Society of Edinburgh and honorary secretary to the Parisian Medical Society, and published in the Edinburgh Medical Journal on 'Climate and consumption' (1857) and 'Forms of Crimean fever' (1857). He was admitted to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 4 August 1857 and delivered 'An introductory lecture on climate' at Surgeons' Hall on 28 May 1857.
