Archibald Makellar

Archibald Makellar received his medical degree from the University of Glasgow on 25 April 1832. He was a leading investigator of occupational lung disease among coal miners and published 'An Investigation into the Nature of Black Phthisis' in 1846. Makellar served as physician to the New Town Dispensary, Edinburgh, and was a member of the Harveian and Obstetrical Societies. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 4 February 1845.
