Andrew Melville

Andrew Melville received his MD from the University of Caen in 1683. He was licensed to practise in 1694 and admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh that same year. In 1695, Melville was among several Fellows suspended for inciting a riot. The suspension lasted for five years and was lifted on 31 January 1704. Melville later studied at the University of Leiden in 1703 and at the University of Glasgow under James Woodrow, professor of divinity. His name is attached to the 'Edinburgh Pharmacopoeia' published in 1722.
