Andrew Fergus Hewat was born in Edinburgh in 1884, the son of Archibald Hewat, an actuary. He graduated MB from the University of Edinburgh in 1907 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1914. He held posts at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, the Royal Infirmary, and Surgeons' Hall. After service with the Royal Army Medical Corps during the First World War, he became Physician to Kingscroft Hospital. He served the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh as Secretary, Curator of the Laboratory, President from 1943 to 1945, Trustee, and Senior Trustee. He died in 1957.
