Alfred Elliott Benthall trained at University College London, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1879, a Licentiate of the Society of Apothecaries in 1880, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1883. He was a Member of the British Medical Association and worked as House Surgeon at Hartlepool Hospital from 1880 to 1882. He later moved to Sherborne, Dorset, where he died in June 1886.
