Alexander Wylie

Alexander Wylie was born in 1753. He studied at the University of Edinburgh from 1807 to 1808 and received his MD from the University of St Andrews on testimonials signed by John Barclay MD and William Wright MD of Edinburgh. Wylie resided in Dumfries, where he was an agent for the British Linen Bank. In 1808 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and was living in Edinburgh on an independent fortune. He did not practise medicine for the remainder of his life. He became Librarian of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1810 and remained in that role until his death on 1 June 1824.
