Alexander Murray Drennan was born in Glasgow in 1884. He graduated MB from the University of Edinburgh in 1906 and was appointed Professor at the University of Otago in 1914, being elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in the same year. During the First World War he promoted the antiseptic use of Eusol. He graduated MD from the University of Edinburgh in 1924. He became Professor at Queen's University Belfast in 1929 and returned to Edinburgh as Professor of Pathology in 1931, retiring in 1954. He died in Stirling in 1984.
