Alexander Montgomerie Bell

Alexander Montgomerie Bell was born in 1842, the son of John Montgomerie Bell, advocate and Sheriff of Kincardineshire. He obtained his MD from Edinburgh in 1863 and practised initially in Fife before moving to St Boswells, Roxburghshire. He later settled in Edinburgh, where he worked at the New Town Dispensary and served for several years as Assistant Surgeon to the Midlothian Coast Artillery Volunteers. He became a Fellow of the College in 1877 and died on 28 July 1884 from complications arising from a longstanding heart condition.
