Alexander Kennedy

Alexander Kennedy was born on 22 June 1764. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh from 1780 to 1786 and received his certificate from the Corporation of Surgeons in 1787. In 1788 he joined the Indian Medical Service as an assistant surgeon and moved to Madras, later serving as surgeon from 1795 and superintending surgeon from 1808 to 1812. Kennedy returned to Scotland in 1819, received his MD from Aberdeen on 30 January 1819, and began practising as a physician in Edinburgh. He was elected an ordinary Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh on 25 January 1819 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 2 May 1820. He was also a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Kennedy died at 6 Albany Street, Edinburgh, on 27 March 1827.
