Alexander Jackson received his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh on 1 August 1838. He served as physician to the New Town Dispensary in Edinburgh and to the Drummond Street Surgical Hospital. Jackson became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 7 November 1843.
