Alexander Grant Clugston

Alexander Grant Clugston was born in Stranraer in 1747. In 1768 he joined the East India Trading Company as a ship's surgeon. After serving on board various ships of the company he was furloughed from 1787 to 1790. During this period he was awarded an MD by the University of St Andrews and became a Fellow of this College. Returning to India, he became Surgeon General of the EITC in Bombay, now Mumbai, until his death in 1792.
