Alexander Goodall was born in Ayrshire in 1876, the son of the Reverend Charles Goodall. He was educated at George Watson's College and the University of Edinburgh, graduating MB in 1898 and MD in 1901. He was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1901 and elected a Fellow in 1904. He served as House Physician at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and House Surgeon at Yarmouth General Hospital. In 1906 he qualified as a Lecturer in Physiology and was appointed Assistant Physician to the Royal Infirmary in 1913. He served as President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1937. He died in Edinburgh in 1941.
