Alexander Bruce Low was born in Edinburgh in 1856 and studied at the universities of Edinburgh and Vienna. He earned his MB CM in 1878 and his MD in 1881, winning prizes in surgery and clinical medicine. He spent most of his career in Sunderland, where he was Vice-President of the Sunderland and North Durham Medical Society and published papers in its Transactions. He also held posts at local hospitals, including the Royal Infirmary, Sunderland, and Monkwearmouth Hospital. He died in Norwood in 1927.
