Alexander Bruce

Alexander Bruce was born in Buchan, Aberdeenshire, and began his studies in arts at the University of Aberdeen before training in medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He graduated MB CM with first-class honours in 1879 and was awarded a gold medal for his MD in 1887. After working in several Edinburgh hospitals, including service as Physician at the Royal Infirmary, he became Lecturer in the Practice of Medicine at the Edinburgh School of Medicine. He published 'Illustrations of the Mid and Hind Brain' and 'Topographical Atlas of the Spinal Cord', translated Richard Thoma's 'Lehrbuch der Pathologie', and edited the Review of Neurology and Psychology for several years. He died in Edinburgh in June 1911.
