Alexander Blackhall-Morison, the grandson of Sir Alexander Morison, former President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, trained in Edinburgh, earning his MB CM in 1872 and his MD in 1878, for which he was awarded a gold medal. He specialised in diseases of the heart and worked at several London hospitals, including Mount Vernon Hospital for Consumption and Diseases of the Chest and the Royal Northern Hospital. He was a member and one-time President of the National Medical Union, formed in opposition to the National Insurance Act of 1911. He died suddenly in London in December 1927.
