Albrecht Von Haller

Albrecht Von Haller was born 16 October 1708 in Bern, Switzerland. He studied at the University of Tubingen, as well as at Leiden, London and Paris. After this, he returned to Bern, lecturing on anatomy and working as a physician. When the University of Göttingen was established in 1734, he became a professor of medicine, surgery, anatomy, and botany, posts he held until 1751. He was instrumental in founding the university's Royal Society of Sciences, becoming its secretary and president. He also wrote almost two hundred works across various disciplines, most notably ‘Elementa physiologiae corporis humani’, released 1757-1766 in eight volumes. He died in Bern on 12 December 1777.
