Belgian politician Adolphe Max was born 30 December 1869. He was mayor of Brussels from 6 December 1909 until his death on 6 November 1939. He is best known for refusing to cooperate with the German invasion during WWI, for which he was imprisoned for the duration of the war. He was awarded honorary fellowship for the role he played during WWI.
