Adam Freer received his medical degree from the University of Leiden on 28 July 1687. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 7 October 1695. From December 1695 to December 1696 Freer served as Treasurer of the College. He was also among several Fellows appointed in December 1696 to revise the 'Edinburgh Pharmacopoeia'.
