Come and explore how brain works, what it’s made of, how we study it in the lab and how everyday experiences help shape our brains.
This hands-on experience invites visitors of all ages to discover the fascinating world of the brain through interactive activities, creative crafts and research demonstrations.
What to expect:
You’ll journey through three interactive stations:
1. Meet Your Brain
• Discover the shape, size, and weight of the human brain using brain models and bean bags
• Learn about different brain parts and their functions through a game of building or wearing your own brain hat.
2. Brain Cells in Colour
• Find out what’s inside the brain by meeting different brain cell types.
• Explore how scientists study brain cells in the lab through a colourful activity inspired by real experiments, using glue and glitter. You can also make your favourite brain cells using pipe cleaners.
3. Keeping Your Brain Healthy
• Join a short interactive talk about “brain city” to learn how the brain grows and changes as we learn new skills.
Meet the Scientist
This activity is delivered by Dr. Rana Fetit from the Institute for Regeneration and Repair at the University of Edinburgh. Rana’s research focuses on understanding how the brain develops and changes in health and disease using stem cells.
All ages welcome
As well as the drop-in activity, the Physicians’ Gallery has a children’s medical library, colouring-in, worksheets and a dressing-up station available every day.
