Vijaya Chandra Ratnesar was born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka (Ceylon). In 1973 he moved to Florida, setting up in practise in Fort Myers, the first Sri Lankan to do so. Soon he had attracted others as well as Indians to work there. Not only was he proud to be a Fellow of the RCPEd., as a keen Republican he was also a member of the U.S. President' s Medical Advisory Council.

He is survived by his children, one in Bermuda, one in Orlando, one in Melbourne and another in Washington DC.

His brothers and grandchildren live in Australia, Bermuda and California. He developed pancreatic cancer a year and a half ago to be followed by surgery, radiotherapy , chemotherapy and renal failure. In his final weeks he was cared for by Hospice Hope, Florida.

Those who cared for him throughout his illness wrote." (We)thought the Royal College would like to know that a very dedicated Fellow lived his profession with compassion for his patients and an expertise acquired at your medical facility and was known as the best diagnostician in this area."
