Syed Mohibur Rab, Emeritus Professor of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, died from glioblastoma multiformis on 15th September 2014.

Syed Mohibur Rab came to the UK under a British Council scholarship (1955-57) and worked under Paul Wood and John Goodman at the PGMS Hammersmith London and at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh gaining memberships of the two colleges. He was appointed Professor of Medicine at his alma mater in 1964 and following the breakup of Pakistan moved to Karachi where he was appointed Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in 1972 and later Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Karachi. Professor Rab was elected President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan and was Emeritus International Adviser to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and London.

Typically he was still working and seeing patients when aphasia heralded the onset of his ailment. Known for his diagnostic skills, easy manners, and quick repartee, he was a popular and highly respected physician. He leaves behind a wife Masuma (married 1954), a son and two daughters who are physicians.
