This 2-hour webinar course was chaired by Dr Sue Pound and facilitated entirely by Dr Caspian Priest. Dr Priest (NHS Fife) is the co-author of the international online course "Transgender Healthcare: Caring for Trans Patients" which won the 2022 LGBT Advisor Award for Health, and a Lecturer for Transgender Health at St George's University of London. He was a very engaging and extremely knowledgeable presenter.

The course covered topics such as gender-inclusive language and best practice for healthcare providers; medical and surgical aspects of gender affirming care; and legal and ethical considerations for healthcare providers. Dr Priest spoke about the experiences and perspectives of patients, colleagues and students in the healthcare setting. Three fictional scenarios were presented and delegates were invited to respond online with suggestions for best practice and any questions arising.

Feedback from the 102 delegates was very positive, with comments such as:

  • Fantastic session, really informative and super important given the current political climate (PMQ today)
  • Great innovative session and very helpful, will recommend to colleagues! Thanks a lot
  • It was great and I genuinely learnt a lot.

Dr Caspian Priest said:

"What a fantastic audience for an increasingly complex and divisive area of medicine. RCPE members continue to show themselves to be very best of the medical community - continually striving to learn about every which way to support their patients, and ensuring they approach every patient and colleague with the compassion they deserve. Thank you all for such a brilliant proactive response to this often-misrepresented part of healthcare."
