No29. Janr 26th. 1790.
Patrick McCulloch at 22 complains of pain of his side, dyspnoea & severe cough, attended with the expectoration of thick whitish matter which is sometimes mixed with blood. And he frequently coughs up pure blood in considerable quantity. Pulse 76 & weak. Tongue red, appetite & strength impaird. The cough & pain of his side, have continued for two years past. But the bloody expectoration only appeard about a month ago; at which time, he was admitted into the Infirmary; & on the cessation of the haemoptysis was dismissed. It has since however recurrd with the same violence as before. Rx. Pulv. G. Tragacanth - [Amyli] - Sach Alb. aa ℥p M cap. coch. parv. ter. de die. 30 Has taken his powders regularly but had very considerable bloody expectoration on Thursday last & at present he complains much of weakness. Belly regular. Pulse 80 Cont. Med. u a. Febr 6th. Thinks he has had some sickness after the powder & he has had little return of bloody expectoration. He still complains much of cough & weakness. Pulse 100. Belly natural. Cont. Med. u. a. 13. Has had no return of the bloody expectoration & thinks himself rather stronger, but still complains much of pain of his side, severe cough, & difficult expectoration Cont. Pulv. u. a. & cap. om & vesp. Pil. Theb. gr X. 20 Has had no return of the Haemoptysis, cough & pain of side much easier & he thinks himself in other respects much better Belly regular. Pulse 80. Cont. Med 27. Continues free from the Haemoptysis, cough easier, & in other respects better Pulse 76. Belly regular. Cont. Med. u. a. March 6 Has no return of the Haemoptysis & little remains of cough [illegible] Medu. a.& cap Cap. Pil Stomach gr V om m & vesp.
