    No29. January 26th. 1790.

    Patrick McCulloch at 22 complains of pain of his side, dyspnoea & severe cough, attended with the expectoration of thick whitish matter which is sometimes mixed with blood. And he frequently coughs up pure blood in considerable quantity.

    Pulse 76 & weak. Tongue red, appetite & strength impaired.

    The cough & pain of his side, have continued for two years past.

    But the bloody expectoration only appeared about a month ago; at which time, he was admitted into the Infirmary1; & on the cessation of the haemoptysis was dismissed.

    It has since however recurred with the same violence as before.

    Has taken his powders regularly but had very considerable bloody expectoration on Thursday last & at present he complains much of weakness. Belly regular. Pulse 80

    February 6th.

    Thinks he has had some sickness after the powder & he has had little return of bloody expectoration. He still complains much of cough & weakness. Pulse 100. Belly natural.

    Has had no return of the bloody expectoration & thinks himself rather stronger, but still complains much of pain of his side, severe cough, & difficult expectoration

    Has had no return of the Haemoptysis, cough & pain of side much easier & he thinks himself in other respects much better

    Continues free from the Haemoptysis, cough easier, & in other respects better

    Pulse 76. Belly regular.
