Mathew Steele at 47 a labourer complains of violent pain in his stomach, attended with Anorexia & vomiting of a thin watery fluid. He is also affected with a sense of distension in his stomach occurring at uncertain periods, & he is much relievd by a discharge of wind. Pulse 76 & feeble Tongue white Belly bound. Appetite bad, & he has slept very ill in the night for some time past. His complaints have continued for five weeks, & arose as he thinks from exposure to cold, while he was engaged in harvest work. [He] has taken some salts & a vomit from which he obtaind some degree of temporary relief. Cap. Mist. Tinct. Aromat ℥p ter de die nec non sumat. Pil. Theb. gr X. om. n. Cap. etiam pro re nata Pil. ex Colocynth aa Aloe. gr X. 19 Has had free passage of his belly from the pills, & the pain in his stomach was considerably easier for some days; but of late he has taken none of his medicine, since which he thinks that the pain is again somewhat aggravated. Cont. Mist & Pil. u. a 26. He now sleeps well during the night, & his stomach complaints are much easier, through the day, particularly since Wednesday last. His belly is still however bound, unless when he takes the purgative pills. Interm. Pil. Theb. Cont. Mist. & Cap. Pil ex Colocynth cum Aloe pro re nata u. a. 9th The pills keep his belly open; Symptoms much as before Cont. Med. u. a. 23. Has taken none of his medicine for eight days past, since which his belly has been very bound & all his other symptoms much aggravated Cont. Med. u. a. Febr 6 Was for some time almost entirely free from his complaints but has had some return of them on discontinuing his medicines Cont. Med. u. a. 13. Symptoms easier – Cont.
