    Martha Nixon

    (1789)

    No3. Martha Nixon at 56.

Case of this patient somewhat of complic nature.

And is I think evid subj to two diseases, often occurring altog sep & distinct.

In cough dyspn & mucous expect, have common sympt of chron. catarh

And as is very comm with this affect, has now had regular attack every winter, for some years past

But besides this is also subj. to various sympt evid arising from flatul in alim canal.

Which although may tend to aggr. dysp. & other pect sympt, yet evid unconn with these.

And indeed either part of affect may subsist indep of other.

Both parts of affect very diffic to comb.

This partic to be dreaded of catarh at commen of winter season.

And then also from cold weather restraining from exercise in open air, Flatul. more apt to encr.

Am however hopeful that by proper remed may be able in some degree at least to comb. both.

Partic by those prod regul disch by belly, relaxing spasm, & promot expector.

Is with these intent, that have had recourse to Pil. Foetid cum Aloe.

But of these & other pract reserve observ. till afterw treat of case at more length.
