    No1 28th Octr 1788.

Kath Hastie at 60, has some inflammation of the tunica adnata of the left eye, attended with intolerance of light & diminution of vision. On inspection the pupil of the eye affected does not seem to contract freely. She complains also of a deep seated pain in the right left temple.

Belly regular, tongue dry with much thirst, Pulse about 70 & weak, Catamenia have ceased several years ago.

These complaints first occured about eight days ago, during convalescence from a fever, & she describes the first attack as resembling a mist, appearing before her eyes.

She knows no particular cause for this affection & has used no remedy but a collyrium, of the composition of which she is ignorant.
