    (1788)

    No6th Alexr Paterson at 39.

Disease of this patient conf. entirely to one part, left knee.

And there consist entirely in severe & distress pain.

Is however at same time without any local affect.

At least if do not consider as such the app. emaciat of limb below.

Severe pains of knee by no means uncomm.

But then in general with obvious disease partic with consid swelling.

And in pres inst as shall afterw have occas to point out when [treat] more fully of it, not without pecul.

Am however inclind to consid it as of Rheum kind.

And as approach. to that modif of Rheum which when [seatd] in hip joints has name of ischias.

An affect often also accomp. with wasting of limb below.

After contin which this affect has already had cannot hope for speedy recov.

Yet not without expect that by prop. means may be able not only, to mitig pres pain, but also to prev return.

Or at least to render these less severe. And if this the case may expect restorat of due vigour & flesh to the limb.

With the intent now ment. have had recourse to extract of Hyosciam inter. & to Ol. Terebinth. extern.

Artic by no means void of activ & from which in former inst have derivd consid benef in simil affect.
