Robt Robt Pringle at 53 a servant is affected with a frequent inclination for voiding his urine, which comes off in small quantities at a time, is high coloured, of a thicker consistence than natural, & sometimes containing a large proportion of small calcareous particles; but it has frequently mixd with it, a great deal of blood. Sometimes he discharges pure blood, sometimes it is in a [clotted] state, & then it passes with difficulty through the urethra, producing extreme pain. He also has at times blood mixed with his stools He complains of acute pain in the region of both kidneys, stricking down to the thigh, along the course of the ureters but particularly severe along the urethra. He is troubled with flatulence & often with headach, & he is much debilitated by his complaints. Pulse 70 & feeble. Appetite impaired. Tongue rather foul. Thirst great. Belly very costive. He first observd the Haematuria, about four months ago. But the pains, did not occurr, till about two months after. The discharge of blood, with his foeces came onabout two monthssoon after the formr. It is now much less considerable than before. He imputes his complaints to long continued fatigue, & overexertion. None of his relations are subject to nephritic complaints. He has used some powders of Gum [Arabicum] & nitre, with some temporary relief. Cap. bis indies Pulv. Uv Urs. coch parv. 18. Has taken the Uva Ursi which sits easily on his stomach But the pain of his back continues nearly as severe as before. He has not of late discharged any pure blood by the urethra but his urine is still deeply tinged. Belly rather bound. But he has taken twice a small quantity of Glaubers salt which operatd freely. Crem Tart. coch parv. 25 His urine is now much less high coloured than before, & the Cream of Tartar keeps his belly gently open. But he is still much distressd with the pain of his back & the discharge of his urine is very scanty. Cont. Med. u. a. March 4 Had considerable sickness from the encreasd dose of the Uva Ursi but without vomiting. The pain of his back has been very distressing to him since the last report & he has discharged a considerable quantity of clotted blood with his urine.
