    Betty Lindsay

    1785

    No14. Novr 25. 1785

Betty Lindsay at 29 a married woman is affected with flying pains through her body, but particularly in her head, left arm & right leg

These pains are much encreased by warmth in bed, & are not relievd by sweating to which she is sometimes subjected in the night. The tone & muscular power of the affected arm are much diminishd, & those of the leg in some degree impaird.

She does not think that the joints of either extremity are particularly affected. The pain of her head is usually worst in the morning, & is then accompanied with considerable vertigo.

Pulse natural, Tongue clean, appetite impaird, Great thirst, especially in the morning. Belly & Menses regular. Bad sleep.

These complaints began to distress her about two years ago at which time, after exposure to cold when in the puerperal state, she was attackd with a very severe pain of head which soon became somewhat easier & then the other symptoms appeared. But the pains were much more violent than they are at present. Was formerly healthy. Has used no medicines lately.
