    James Goodall

    (1785-1786)

No22. James Goodall at 56 subj to compl. of affect.

But princip & most distress compl. severe & obstin diarrh.

With which, although at times consid remiss, has now been affect, for more than thirty years

Hence therfore hopes of compl. recov cannot be very sang.

And even perhaps somewhat doubtful whether would be safe or prop.

For after habit so long accust to such a disch, although morb. worst conseq will often result from supp.

Contin however with great degree of viol still more to be dreaded.

And indeed has alr. ind. such state of weakn. that not without appr.

But by aid of prop. remed, reason I think to hope that may soon be able to allev. affect.

For notw. long contin of affect no reason to believe, that has given rise to any local affect of intest. [lab.]

Have begun pract. by direct for this patient an Emet.

And to this shall prob. subj the use of some astring.

Would not however here wish to empl. what may imm restr. loosen

And have thoughts of using the Tinct e Kino comb. with vin infus of Rhub.

From which hope, that intest may be [braced] & disch restr. while at same time belly kept mod open.
