John Stark at 19 is very weak & emaciated. He has about twenty four whitish slimy stools in the course of the day & night They are in small quantity & unmixed with blood. He complains of a pain at the bottom of the fundament which is so violent, that he cannot sit down or walk withou suffering the most excruciating torment. He has also a slight hard cough, & feels a pain in the chest part particularly in the morning. Pulse frequent appetite bad. The Diarrhoea has continued for ten weeks, but he had only one stool yesterday & another this forenoon & the pain at the anus is much abated. He attributes this change to a mixture with the Confect Japonica, which he has been taking for these two or three days. Rx. Confect. Japon Sach Alb. aa ℥ i. [solum] Ag. Font. ℥VI dein adde Tinct. Theb. gt XXMcap. ℥p bis indies. Febr 7. Since he began the use of the mixture his looseness has entirely ceased & at present his belly is rather bound.
