George Rob. at 19 a Shoemaker about fifteen months ago when at work felt something gradually ascending from the right toe up to the leg thigh & side, till it arose to the head, when his features became considerably [distorted], & he was insensible for about a second. This aura has frequently recurred generally begining on the right side but sometimes taking a similar course on the left. He is always a little confused for some time after the fit. He complains once in one or two months of very painful contractions of his fingers & toes, which require considerable force to bend them. These complaints are always worse in the winter than in Summer & worse when confined to the house than after exercise in the open air. He feels at times a prickly sensation over his whole body after the contractions are gone. Pulse 80 appetite good. Belly natural. Sleep unimpaired unless when the contractions come on. He has taken some pills without any benefite Cap. Pil. Caerul. i. om. m. & vesp. 28. Has some sickness from the morning dose of his pills but no vomiting Appetite good. Belly rather loose Cont. Pil. u. a. Janr 11. Has now no sickness from the pills & has had no return of his affection since he began their use Cont. Pil. u. a. 25 Has no sickness from the pills & has continued free from any return of paroxism since he began the use of them. But he complains much of the weakness of his legs which he thinks rather augmented since the last report. Cont. Pil. u. a. Febr 1. Is admitted a patient into the Infirmary Let him be dismissd. For a month past has complaind of frequent contractions of his legs & arms so severe that he can scarcely streach them out which exertion however he is obliged to perform as the only means of obtaining relief. The fits are of uncertain duration, recurr 7 or 8 times in 24 hours & are attended with Dyspnoea & cold sweats. The muscles of the legs feel peculiarly tense. Both his hands are swelld but the right is most painful. He is frequently awaked from sleep by sudden starts & his legs swell towards night. P. nat. Ap. good Belly regular. About 18 months since he laboured under the same complaints & experienced no relief till summer commenced.
