    William Stark

    (1781-1782)

Wm Stark at 64. Janr 9th

Has for about an year past been much troubled with pains shooting through his lower extremities, but particularly affecting the ancles, knees & groins & frequently with great severity attacking the small of his back in so much that it is not without great difficulty & pain that he is able to rise up when sitting. When these complaints first began the weather was very cold & his ancles were much swelld; but on the appearance of the summer season the swelling subsided; & the pains became much easier. Since this winter began however his complaints are again aggravated & a fall which he got about a month ago has contributed a great deal to their aggravation. The pain of his back is much easier when he lies in bed & all his pains are relieved by warmth, which he finds necessary to keep up by external means as his lower joints have a constant tendency to become cold.
