Case of David [Bonthron] last I shall mention has I must own disap expect.
And indeed has disappointed prognos which here deliv. Consid case as example of syphil which indeed before came under our care manif appeard to be of obstin nature And as prev to applic to us had under direct of othr pract used mercury to great extent judged it advis to attempt cure by other means. With this view had recourse to med which have often before directed. These were roots of Mezer. & [Sarass]. But here ordered them in form diff from what had ever before used viz in [Powder] Under this med compl. soon remark change for better. And was in hopes when last spoke of case little more necess to be done. Soon after compl so far allev that gave up Mezer. & had recourse to Per. Bark with view of prev return. Had hardly however begun this med or rather given up Mezer with [Saras]. than appar return of affect. And in short time rose again to such height that have omitted Bark & returned to use of former med. Under this sympt once more consid allev. But whethr of itself suff for compl cure or not have now at least learnt that not to expect it without longer contin. Besides these remarks on other cases But eithr less pecul in mode of treatment or method of cure. Or but for short time under [care] had occas to speak of them
