    DEP/DUA/1/45/06 (Normalised version)

    David Phin

    (1788-1789)

    No25. David Phin. at 23.

In case of this patient a distinctly marked instance of Diarrhoea.

And that too long continued & obstructive.

While at same time has induced very remarkable affection of system as indicated by emaciation, loss of strength etc.

Would appear that sometimes even under form of what called Coeliaca.

That is discharge of whitish coloured matter.

Commonly supposed to proceed from chyle

But more frequently the effect of change in mucus.

    This however but rarely case.

And temporary occurrence in manner here described shows propriety of not making Coelica separate genus from Diarrhoea.

But from this circumstance, as well as from long continuation may infer obstruction.

At same time see no evidence that any local affection has taken place in alimentary canal.

Neither fixed pain nor hectic fever.

Am in hopes therefore that may soon be able if not to remove at least to alleviate complaint.

And that too, by diminishing sensibility & strengthening tone of intestines.

Is with these intentions that had recourse to mixture with succus japonica & Tincture Thebaic.

But after so long continuation may even be some doubt, to propriety of complete cure.

And that to be attempted, rather in gradual manner than by very strong astringent.
