    DEP/DUA/1/44/07 (Normalised version)

    John Boyd

    (1788)

    No7. John Boyd – at 40.

In case of this patient an evident example of Anasarca

And although not without suspicion of some deposit of water also in cavity of abdomen, that is of complication with ascites, yet upon whole may be considered as a recent & favourable case.

Am here attempting cure by means of emetic & of Cream of Tartar, intended both as laxative & diuretic.

From these hope such evacuation will soon be obtained that may have recourse to tonics.

But if disappointed in evacuation by this means have some thoughts of trying here, the Ice plant of Mesembryanthemum [Crystall] an article of late highly recommended in dropsy but of which for my own part have yet no experience.
