With regard to case of this patient must own that in some particulars much at a loss. Part indeed of affection sufficiently obvious. Scally eruption viz. about sides of neck This have no doubt in considering as being an affection of the Herpetic kind. But with this tumour of abdomen most considerable & most distressing part of complaint altogether unconnected. And respecting this tumour different opinions may be entertained. What to me however appears most probable is that to be considered as an affection of Rheumatic kind, seated in abdominal muscles & integumentary system. This supposition I allow not without difficulty. And before can speak with much confidence must see more of it. If however conjecture well founded no reason at least to fear dangerous [consequences] And may even hope that of no long continuation. From uncertainty respecting case have done less than might have been perhaps thought necessary. But this course seemed rather advisable as before came under our care affection seemed to be somewhat on decline. With view to tumour itself [have] merely directed friction with Camphor Oil. While in consequence of state of urine was led to use of Cream Tartar. Under this medicine disease has at least continued progress to recovery. But of effects afterwards speak & probably then more certainty of disease
